Patience

Patience, it seems like something we are all requiring a little bit extra of in 2020. With the amount of uncertainty in the world right now though, it can truly be hard to be patient.
Just a short couple of weeks ago, I was thinking up an idea for a blog post revolving around the work that goes into training for a 100 mile race. That was until my A goal race for the year, the inaugural Wyoming Range 100, was canceled due to the Covid - 19 pandemic. I was looking forward to writing something that glamorizes the relentless work that goes into training for a 100 mile race. Something that makes the post 12 hour work day runs or the 20+ mile mountain runs seem appealing to someone other than those who have a deep relationship with masochism. Instead, I will keep it brief and indulge you in my thoughts on something that is a little more important at the moment, patience.
Whether you’re unsure the next time you will pin a bib to your chest and step on the starting line, the next time you will get to see your family, or whether or not your wedding will go on as planned, every single one of us is requiring some extra patience at the moment. Times are tough and there is surely a lot of uncertainty in the world right now. None of us really know when things will get back to some amount of normalcy. Regardless of your situation, all we can really do is be patient.
Not only can we be patient, but we can take the time to open our eyes and be thankful for what’s right in front of us. Whether or not you can race, be thankful that you can still get out the door and run. Even if your parents live on the other side of the country, be thankful for the friends and family you have close by. And even if you can’t have the wedding of your dreams, be thankful that you have someone that loves you.
So what if we can’t get out and race? Go run a route faster than you ever have. Go take a shot at that FKT you’ve always dreamt about. Go and run that route you’ve always wanted to run. Shit, take a stab at a new endeavor you’ve always wanted to try. Listen to your mind and your body and do what makes you truly happy.
And when the time comes, let’s race. We will be able to bin those bibs to our chest again. We will be able to feel the butterflies run down our backs, our headlamps lighting the dark path that lies before us. We will be able to go the well, lungs burning as we scream up the climb with our competitors close on our heels. When the time comes, we will be ready to fucking rage again. The time will come. Just be patient.
Until then, keep it rad and have fun!
